PDP laments persecution of its members in Zamfara State

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara state has lamented over the indiscriminate arrest of its members.

This was announced by the acting chairman of the party in Zamfara State Alhaji Mukhtar Lugga while addressing journalists on the political happenings in the state at PDP office in Gusau.

He said the state government in collaboration with some security agencies are arresting their members on trump up charges

He further disclosed that of recent, the senatorial candidate of Zamfara central of the party Alhaji Ikra Aliyu Bilbis who was a former Minister was arrested and taken to court on the allegation of destruction of APC billboard in the state capital and stringent conditions were placed for his bail which cannot be met.

He said similarly ambassador Mairiga Muhammad has been in prison for over a month all in an attempt to muzzle PDP in the state in addition to several others.

Lugga said democracy is being threatened in Zamfara by the action of the state government with the connivance of some security agencies.

He called on the Inspector General of police to call his men to order as the party perceived they are working with the state government to deny the PDP its political right to interact with the electorate freely.

He appealed to INEC and all relevant agencies, international communities and the Federal Government to interven as democracy is currently under threat in Zamfara.

He further said the PDP is a law abiding party and appeals to their supporters to remain calm and law abiding as the the leadership is doing everything humanly possible to overcome the situations.
