Partnering WHO, Sultan Foundation, Zamfara First Lady seeks journalists’ support for measles-rubella, polio campaign

Hajia Huraiya said, “the state has already formed several committees in collaboration with UNICEF, WHO, Sultan Foundation and several donor agencies to ensure that every child in the state is captured in the programme.

The First Lady of Zamfara State, North West Nigeria, Hajia Huraiya Dauda Lawal, has appealled to journalists to assist in mobilizing the general public on integrated campaign for measles-rubella and polio vaccination schedule to begin in the state, on Monday October 6, 2025.

She made the appeal during a strategic dialogue with journalists, social media influencers and U_reporters focusing on the integrated campaign for measles-rubella and polio vaccination, held at the Polio Emergency Operations Center in Gusau.

Hajia Lawal described journalists as partners in progress, who can play vital role in mobilizing and sensitizing the people towards achieving desired objectives.

The First Lady, who was represented by the Executive Secretary, Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Hussaini Anka, said, “Zamfara State is fully prepared for the exercise and determined to mobilize all the necessary resources for the programme to succeed.”

According to her, all the state health care facilities would be used from primary health centers through secondary to tertiary health facilities.

Hajia Huraiya said, “the state has already formed several committees in collaboration with UNICEF, WHO, Sultan Foundation and several donor agencies to ensure that every child in the state is captured in the programme.

She further said, “Already, all the personnel who are going to be involved have been trained and 1,280 teams have been formed to handle the programme in 700 primary health centers across the 147 wards in the state, which include those to administer the vaccine, health educators, supervisors and several other facilitators.

She said traditional rulers, Islamic scholars and relevant stake holders have been involved in mobilizing the entire state.

The First Lady said “the vaccines are going to be administered in schools, playing grounds and house-to-house as the state government commits a lot of resources for success of the programme.”
