OnnoghenGate: CJN deserves dismissal not suspension, says Canada-based CACINI

*Condemns NBA for standing with suspended CJN on corruption

*Threatens to mobilize mass action against supporters of Onnoghen’s reinstatement

“The opposition party should be aware that any attempt to use the Chief Justice suspension as a campaign against the government will be resisted and checkmated by CACINI. Crusade Against Corruption and Indiscipline will stand firm with the government in the fight against corruption in Nigeria and the NGO group is ready at anytime to mobilize Nigerians against any corrupt and indisciplined people in our society no matter the position of the person.”

The Ontario, Canadia based Crusade Against Corruption and Indiscipline in Nigeria (CACINI) has added its voice to the “Onnoghen Must Go” campaign globally saying that the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Nkanu Samuel Onnoghen, deserves not just suspension but dismissal.

CACINI made this position known in a message from Canada to The DEFENDER on Wednesday, signed by its President, Mr. Waheed Seriki.

It said: “The Chief  Justice of Nigeria deserved to be dismissed rather than being suspended by the Federal Government for accepting that he forgot to declare the money found in his accounts and also for being in possession of funds and properties that are way beyond his legitimate earning.

“The Chief Justice’s action raises suspicion and he has questions to answer to Nigerians for not remembering to declare such huge amount of money and properties.

“The Crusade Against Corruption and Indiscipline in Nigeria is in full support of the suspension of Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, who has so far refused to respond to all the allegations leveled against him.

“The excuse by Justice Onnoghen that he forgot to declare the money in his account was enough for him to resign as the Chief Justice of Nigeria whom the country is looking up to as the champion and the chief protection of the law, constitution and justice in the country.

“Nigerians will no longer tolerate the usual excuses of corrupt and indisciplined public figures, who always use flimsy and dirty excuses to justify their criminal activities.

“It is a disgrace and embarrassment to Nigeria as a nation, for the chief guide and protector of its law to say, he forgot to declare some of his assets.

“The Chief Justice does not lay a good example to the citizens of the country and he owes Nigerians an explanation for his forgetful action. It was a shock that Chief Justice Onnoghen will also join the group of politicians and top former government officials that use senseless and unreasonable excuses to justify their corrupt practices.

“The Nigerian politicians and top former government officials see themselves as untouchable and they have little or no regards for the law of the country. Also, they manipulate and misuse our system as they wish because of their beliefs that they are untouchable.

“The Crusade Against Corruption and Indiscipline in Nigeria will organize and run effective campaign against members of the society that support the reinstatement of Chief Justice Onnonghen pending the outcome of the case, because supporting the Chief Justice reinstatement until the end of the case is more or less supporting flourishing of corruption in our society.

“The elite in Nigeria should realise the era of they being untouchable is over and the masses are ready to checkmate them when they act contrary to the law of country.

“It is very sad that the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) stood behind the Chief Justice despite the man said he forgot to declare the money in his account. In an ideal society, the Chief Justice does not need to wait for the President to suspend him before he resigns to face the charges against him in court.

“The opposition party should be aware that any attempt to use the Chief Justice suspension as a campaign against the government will be resisted and checkmated by CACINI.

“Crusade Against Corruption and Indiscipline will stand firm with the government in the fight against corruption in Nigeria and the NGO group is ready at anytime to mobilize Nigerians against any corrupt and indisciplined people in our society no matter the position of the person.”
