The Owayoko annual yam festival of the Osolo of Isolo town, in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State, holds today, Sunday September 11, 2022.
Monarch of the community, Oba Edward Kolawole Adejoyegbe Adewole Osalade II, will lead the Osolo-in-Council as well as sons and daughters of the ancient town in a morning gathering at the palace where, in line with customs and traditions, prayers will be offered to KIBI and all the past Obas and ancestors with a big ram, yam, kolanut and drink.
In a message to The DEFENDER Saturday night, it was gathered that, “After the morning prayers at the palace, all that attended will go back home and come back in the afternoon for eating and drinking, during which the king, with his (ancestral crown) ADE ISEMBAYE on his head with IRERE OKIN that makes him a king, will pray for the whole community.”
While details of the celebration are said to be available later, we gathered that the afternoon celebration at the palace square is a coming together of market men and women and avenue for the advancement of peace and unity among people of various ethnic and religious backgrounds who have been bonded by destiny to live and do business together in Isolo.
