Olukoyede to take over as EFCC Acting Chairman?
Although there has been no clear cut official statement on the suspension of Acting Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Ibrahim Magu, the anti-graft agency scribe, Olanipekun Olukoyede, has reportedly been tipped to replace him untill further notice.
Magu, who is currently being investigated by Ayo Salami panel in the Presidency, had his security details stood down Monday night after he was grilled for four hours over allegations of corruption against him.
He was then ordered to be detained in FCID custody in Abuja, at about 9.30pm to enable him continue his appearance before the panel Tuesday morning, which had happened.
Olukoyede, until Tuesday, had been Secretary to the EFCC and therefore will find it not a difficult terrain to hold sway as Acting Chairman of the anti-graft agency while further decision will be taken on who occupies the exalted office of an agency that has put Nigeria on the frontline in global anti-corruption rating.
In the meantime, The DEFENDER gathered that the search by President Muhammadu Buhari for substantive candidate for chairmanship of EFCC has begun.
