Olubo slams Olabimtan over alleged anti-Akure comment

Dayo Olubo Dayo, said the former Ondo State Speaker “GOOFED” with his statement on Akure.
The 2024 Guber Candidate of Labour Party (Per 2014 Constitution ) was reacting to the purported leaked audio of former Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Victor Olabimtan, where he said, “Akure are unserious people.”
Olubo, reacting to the online report in Newsflo.ng said that the statement of the former Ondo State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt Hon. Victor Olabimtan, was “an insult to the good people of Akure” and “unacceptable” from a man who has benefited significantly from Nigeria’s democratic system.
Dayo said Mr. Victor Olabimtan should come up with data or figures on the capacity of the Akokos’ vote capacity as he claimed because Akure District has the largest registered voters in Ondo State electioneering configuration with over 500,000 registered voters in its favor.
The former Isolo Youth President said that in the last presidential elections, the winner in Ondo State, Alhaji Bola Tinubu, who is the current Nigerian President, polled a total of 361,944 votes.
Therefore, if we are strategic, ours winning the race is a derived conclusion.
Let me remind Mr. Olabimtan that Akure has a significant history. It will be recalled that Ondo State took off formally in 1976, consisting of nine administrative divisions of the former Western State.
These nine divisions were Akoko, Akure, Ekiti Central, Ekiti North, Ekiti South, Ekiti West, Okitipupa, Owo, and Ondo. In 1996, Ekiti State was created, and it’s on record that four divisions out of five created in 1976 have produced the Governor of Ondo State, except one, which is Akure Division, comprising Ifedore, Akure North, and Akure South Local Governments in the Central Senatorial District of Ondo State since the return to democratic rule.
Looking at the original ethnic divisional groupings that form the Sunshine State, the people of Akure-speaking communities comprise Ilara-Mokin, Aye, Ipogun, Ibule, Igbara-Oke, Ijare, Isolo, Akure, Isinkan, Oda, Ipinsa, Ogbese, Iju, Araromi, Ilekun, Adofure, Ijoka, Ita-Ogbolu, Aponmu, Ita-Oniyan, Eleyewo, Ilu-Abo, Emure, Irese, Igbatoro, Isinigbo, Osi, Imafon, Alayere, Abo-Asakin, Igoba, Ilado, Ijigba, Isarun, Ero, Mariwo, Eti Ikota, Ibuji, Owode-Owena, Ajebamidele, Ejigbo, Ipote, Owena-Ibutitan, etc., who have suffered the most injustice since the return to democratic rule in 1999.
It’s on record from my introspective point of view and a statement of fact that the original administrative and political divisions of Ondo State were Akoko Division, Owo Division, Okitipupa Division, Akure Division, and Ondo Division. It’s on record again that Akoko Division produced Late Governor Adebayo Adefarati of blessed memory, Owo Division produced Late Governor Adekunle Ajasin and Late Governor Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, the Okitipupa Division produced Governor Olusegun Agagu when Ondo Division produced Governor Olusegun Mimiko. Akure Division, despite being the largest in numerical strength, has NEVER produced a governor since the creation of Ondo State.
Olabimtan doesn’t need to be reminded that the current Governor of Ondo State is from Ondo South.
Olubo said it’s a statement of fact that APC failed this country right from the time of the former President, Muhammad Buhari, took over the leadership of the nation in 2015. Even till now, Nigerians are groaning as our currency has no value, and the economy is in shambles, not to mention the security as APC testimonies are on ground as Nigerians can not forget APC in hurry.
The Labour Party Chieftain said Olabimtan should not blame the current Governor’s leadership style as “it’s an APC pattern from 2015 till date,” but calling the good people of Akure “unserious” will never be acceptable from him as he needs not to create crisis because he has benefited a lot from the system.
