The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, on Monday, struck out a suit that accused Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state of engaging in certificate forgery.
Justice Anwuli Chikere terminated hearing on the matter after the plaintiffs failed to appear in court when the suit was called up for mention.
Those listed as Plaintiffs in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/553/2020 are Edobor Williams, Ugbesia Abudu Godwin, and Amedu Dauda Anakhu.
They had alleged forgery case was that the Edo State Governor, Obaseki, who is seeking to be re-elected, forged the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) certificate in Classical Studies he claimed to have obtained from the University of Ibadan.
The plaintiffs told the court that the alleged certificate forgery was in contravention of section 182(1)(i) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended.
Consequently, they urged the court to among others, declare that the defendant (Obaseki) is not qualified to run or seek election to the office of the governor of Edo State.
Meanwhile, when the case was mentioned on Monday, neither the plaintiffs nor their lawyers were present in court.
Governor Obaseki was also not represented by any lawyer.
In a bench ruling, Justice Chikere struck out the case.
