NNAMDI KANU: Abia court to hear human rights suit against Nigerian Govt

By OUR REPORTER

On the sidelines of the ongoing trial, at a Federal High Court in Abuja, of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of terrorist group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a state High Court in Abia has reportedly set a date for the suit by him, challenging his rearrest and extradition by the Nigerian Government.

The court set 2nd November 2021 for hearing of the pending suit.

Kanu’s special counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, disclosed this in a statement he signed and issued on Thursday, The DEFENDER gathered.

Ejimakor disclosed that the Nigerian government is expected to move their extant application for extension of time to file their defence to the suit.

The statement read: “For the information of the general public, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s Fundamental Rights suit pending before the High Court of Abia State has been assigned and set down for hearing on 2nd November, 2021.

“On this date, the Nigerian Government and its Attorney-General will be expected to move their extant application for extension of time to file their defense to the suit and my opposition to the application.

“It is my intention to, on the spot, move for a Ruling on their application for extension of time, so that the case can proceed quickly to the next level, which is expected to be a definitive hearing on the substantive matter.

“Fundamental Rights suits are intended to be concluded quickly, especially in situations such as this where my Client, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu (the Applicant) is currently incarcerated.”

Effort by The DEFENDER to get the side of the Nigerian Government was not successful as at the time of filing this report, as the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Malam Abubakar Malami (SAN), to whose phone we sent a text to that effect, was yet to reply.
