“The presidency refers all the purveyors of falsehood to a State House press release published a few days ago and signed by the Special Adviser to the President, Femi Adesina, which clearly outlined government’s major achievements and initiatives in tackling security challenges from January to July, 2018. No one can honestly say that President Buhari is doing nothing about security. It is just a fake news item being peddled by selfish politicians with vested interests in keeping Nigerians incensed and it risks being entrenched as reality if we don’t educate ourselves with the truth,” Shehu insisted.
Reacting to claims by some socio-cultural groups led by the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) that President Muhammadu Buhari has failed in living up to the expectations of Nigerians as regards the security of lives and property, the presidency has urged Nigerians to ignore the accusations, describing the groups as only shedding crocodile tears.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in a statement, yesterday, insisted that no one can honestly say that the president is doing nothing in the face of the security challenges in the country.
Shehu stated that the groups were only attacking the presidency because his administration had halted their survival on resources of their various states, adding that it would be misleading for anyone who believes them.
The presidency noted with dismay that the refrain about President Buhari not doing anything about security in the country had turned into the number one fake news item being peddled in the media.

Nigeria’s representative to the United Nations and Secretary-General for West Africa and the Sahel, Mohamed Ibn Chambas, had earlier opined that the conflict between herders and farmers in Nigeria is fast becoming more sophisticated and deadlier.
Chambas made this remark in his report presented to the UN Security Council in which he alleged that the violence is a major security threat in the region. He warned that the herders risk transforming into terrorists.
He, however, commended the armed forces and the Multinational Joint Task Force for their efforts in fighting terrorists in the Lake Chad Basin, adding that in spite of the gains they have made, Boko Haram still remains active and deadly.
