It, however, maintained that the convention will hold on 26 February, 2022 being the date earlier announced Tuesday by the party’s caretaker chairman and Governor of Yobe State, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni.

Some online newspapers (excluding The DEFENDER) had earlier on Wednesday fed their readers with the unverified report of a purported zoning arrangement that took the national chairmanship position to the North Central, while the position of national secretary, they claimed, was zoned to the North East.

The DEFENDER, in effort to confirm the report, sent whatsApp message to a director at the APC national secretariat, who in his reply, said there was no such arrangement.

The Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), however, held a press briefing at the party secretariat where it officially refuted releasing any zoning arrangement for the National Convention.

The committee, after its 19th regular meeting, which lasted for two days, released the timetable and schedule of activities for the convention of the party.

Addressing journalists after Wednesday’s meeting held at the Party’s National Secretariat, the Secretary of the Caretaker Committee, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, said at no time did the committee discuss the zoning arrangement for the National Convention.

Akpanudoedehe: “I am here to debunk the fake news going around on the social media that we have zoned offices. We are yet to meet on the issue of zoning.

“The news and rumour making round are fake news. We never discussed the issue during our deliberations. People should disregard the story because it is fake news. It is not true,” Akpankudohede said.
