Nigeria’s former Minister is dead

Former Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation and the first Civilian Governor of Abia State, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has passed away.
Dr. Onu was said to have breathed his last at an Abuja hospital, in the early hours of Wednesday 11th April, 2024.

Born 1st December 1951 in Ohaozara, Dr. Ogbonaya Onu had been a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, serving in various capacities including as Minister under the civilian government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
His tenure as Minister witnessed significant strides in the fields of science, technology, and innovation.
Having been appointed by President Buhari, Dr. Onu played a crucial role in shaping Nigeria’s policies and advancements in the realm of science and technology.
His contributions have left a lasting impact on the nation.
Ogbonnaya Onu CON (1 December 1951 — 11 April 2024) was a Nigerian politician, author and engineer until his death in April 2024.
He was the first civilian governor of Abia State and was the minister of science, technology and innovation of Nigeria from November 2015 until his resignation in 2022.
He was the longest serving minister of the ministry.
Had the emergence of Emilokan not arisen and Former President Muhammadu Buhari’s rumoured desire to be succeeded by Igbo Presient, Dr. Ogbonnaya would not only have ruled Nigeria as President but also, he would have been fifth Niverian President to die in office.
