*As Labour Party wins Eti-Osa Federal Constituency

In an unprecedented development, Dr. Peter Obi, Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, an unpopular political organisation in Nigeria, has defeated the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in its stronghold of Lagos State in the Saturday February 25, 2023 presidential election in the country.

Obi defeated Tinubu after the votes were calculated from all the 20 Local Government Areas in the state.

The DEFENDER reports that Tinubu was a two-term governor of Lagos State and that the state has been his stronghold, historically, since 1999 until last Saturday.

In the Lagos State election results announced by INEC in the Yaba Collation Centre, Tinubu polled 572,606 behind Obi who won the presidential in the state with 582,454.

Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came third with 75,750 votes, while Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) got 8,442 and Adewole Adebayo of Social Democratic Party (SDP) had 772.

This online newspaper reports also that Lagos has number of registered voters of 6,942,885 but on the election day, number of accredited voters was 1,347,152; valid votes 1,271,451; rejected votes 64,278 and total votes cast was 1,335,729.

This collation update was as reported by INEC at its Lagos State Collation Centre on Monday February 27, 2023 while approval by 2023 Presidential Election Collation Centre, Abuja is being awaited.

…As Labour Party wins Eti-Osa Federal Constituency in Lagos

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Mr. Thaddeus Attah of the Labour Party (LP) as winner of the Eti-Osa  Federal  Constituency  seat in the House of Representatives.

Prof Funmilayo Odukoya, who is the INEC Returning Officer, made the declaration yesterday  at the Collation Centre.

Attah won with 24,075 votes, beating his counterparts, Mr Olubankole Wellington (Banky W) of the Peoples Democratic Party  (PDP), who had 18,666 votes, and Mr Babjide Obanikoro of the APC, who had 16, 901 votes.

“That Thaddeus Attah of LP, having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared winner and is returned elected; signed by me. Thank you so much, “ Odukoya said

She said that other candidates received the following votes: Mr Oladehin Olufemi, African Democratic Congress, 1,422 votes; Mr Azeez Kabirat of New Nigeria Peoples Party, 414 votes, and Mr Olasunkanmi Ololade, Social Democratic Party, 207 votes.

Earlier, there was pandemonium between the party agents and INEC officers over the authenticity of the result, even before it was declared by the presiding officer.

NAN reports that security agents including the police and army were on ground to ensure and maintain safety and peace.
