Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has issued an advisory warning Nigerians resident in South Africa to be cautious and watchful in carrying out their day to day activities, as proponents of Operation Dudula, a group in the former apartheid enclave, plan to launch another round of xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals in the country beginning from 2nd September 2022.

A xenophobic experience in the past in South Africa.

The warning, which followed some threats by the South African indigenous group, widely publicised through public notice and video clips on social media, was handed out in the advisory signed out from the Consular Section for the High Commission dated 24 August, 2022 but obtained by The DEFENDER on Monday August 29.

Sent and confirmed to us by our South African contact in Johannesburg as ‘150 percent true’, the document titled, “ADVISORY TO NIGERIANS IN SOUTH AFRICA”, read thus:

“This is to advice Nigerians living in South Africa to be vigilant and exercise caution in their activities due to the recent utterances of the proponents of the Operation Dudula and their threats to attack foreign nationals in this country.

“The group, through public notice and video clips circulated on the social media has informed of plans to march on against foreign nationals in South Africa starting from the 2nd of September, 2022 and specifically on foreign business owners, shops and undocumented foreign nationals.

“Nigerian residents in South Africa are hereby advised to exercise caution and be watchful in carrying out their day to day activities.”
