Nasarawa records another surprise, as APC’s Alhaji Sule winner of guber election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Engr. Abdullahi Alhaji Sule, winner of the Saturday 9 March 2019 governorship election in Nasarawa State.

The INEC Returning Officer, Professor Abdullahi Bala who is Vice Chancellor Federal University of Technology Minna, declared the results Monday morning at the INEC head office in Lafia the state capital.

According to him the APC candidate polled 327,229 votes to beat his closest PDP rival who got 184,281 votes. Others were APGA 132,784 votes ZLP 13,308 votes and ADP 1,355 votes.

“By the power confirmed on me as the returning officer, i hereby declared Engr, Abdullahi Alhaji Sule, as the winner of the governorship election in Nasarawa state, having certified the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes.”

He said out of the 161, 7786 registered voters, 686,303 people were accredited.

The returning officer added that 681,400 votes were cast out of which 670,879 were valid, while 10,521 votes were rejected.

The governorship poll victory by the APC is seen to be another surprise following the presidential election won by President Muhammadu Buhari in a state he never won since he had consistently won elections in Northern Nigeria in 2003.

Many who looked at the Nasarawa electoral situation in 2019 are saying that the North Central state never had it that party at the centre would win election there or vice versa, the jinx therefore started to be broken since 2015 election when Arc Umar Tanko Al-Makurah won as APC candidate while President Buhari won at the centre as APC presidential candidate.

The DEFENDER had reported Alhaji Sule resigned as a director in the Dangote Group to contest for the governorship position of Nasarawa State.

By May 29, 2019 he will be a substantive state governor of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
