MURIC warns attackers of Magu, says nothing must happen to him

Akintola said, “This man should not just be sacrificed like that. He is not fighting a personal battle. He is on a mission to rescue Nigeria from the abyss of moral debauchery. He is fighting for both the present and future generations. Corruption must not be allowed to win the battle. Nigerians will lose hope in this war if the arrow head is eliminated. We believe it is high time FG read the riot act to the security agencies. Heads must roll if anything happens to Magu.  MURIC demands round-the-clock impregnable security network around the person of Magu, his house as well as members of his nuclear family, no more, no less. No option should be underestimated, including his consumables and the possibility of the use of explosives anywhere around his vicinity.”

The attacks by unknown gunmen on the house of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu, which led to the reported killing of a police sergeant on duty, at Karshi, an Abuja suburb two days ago, have been reacted to by a rights group in Nigeria.

The group, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), in a statement issued in Lagos by its President, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, copy of which was sent to The DEFENDER, on Thursday, expressed shock at the attacks leading to what it described as waste of life and the desperation to assassinate the EFCC boss.

MURIC noted that it was the third attempt on the life of the EFCC boss, Magu, this year alone, and therefore inferred that there was no iota of doubt at this third attempt that some kind of powerful corrupt persons, whose case or cases were being investigated were determined to eliminate the no-nonsense anti-graft fighter.

It would be recalled that over Magu alone, attacks had come from both political scene with most conspicuous aspect of it playing out on the floor of the Nigerian Senate.  The demand and insistence on the need for President Muhammadu Buhari to remove Magu at all cost based on frivolous allegations had led to several altercations by the Senators against the nation’s Presidency but all to no avail because of resolve of the President to have the EFCC boss on, in acting capacity or not.

The latest developments whereby the life of Magu, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), is the peak of desperation that people, who do not want the diehard anti-corruption driver of the no-nonsense Muhammadu Buhari Administration to succeed in his resolve to help kill corruption before corruption kills Nigeria and Nigerians, have reached.

The handwriting, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, said in the MURIC’s statement said, is on the wall and the Federal Government must give marching orders to the nation’s security agencies to leave no stone unturned in the mission to protect Magu, sounding it clear that some powerful people just want Ibrahim Magu out of the way by hook or by crook and that they want anyone else except Magu as head of the EFCC, so that they can be able to manipulate him or her just to escape justice over their economic terrorism against Nigeria.

“MURIC demands round-the-clock impregnable security network around the person of Magu, his house as well as members of his nuclear family, no more, no less. No option should be underestimated, including his consumables and the possibility of the use of explosives anywhere around his vicinity. This is not asking for too much because any successor of Magu will have been intimidated if the latter is eventually eliminated. The implication of this for the war against graft is better imagined.”
