MURIC TO FG: Is Amupitan a sacred cow?

By KEMI KASUMU
With MURIC and several other Islamic groups now in high spirit demanding for the sack of Amupitan, President Tinubu risks losing his support base come 3025 if he continues to ignore their singular demand as he is obviously doing. Recall it has been rumoured how Tinubu is working hard to team up with Christian community to jettison the Muslims influence in the coming general elections.
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), a faith-based civil liberties organization operating from Nigeria, has again demanded the removal of the recently appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the country, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan who has been accused of writing the legal brief that pushed Nigeria into international embarrassment it is yet to free from.

The Amupitan’s report presented Nigeria as country that thrives on Christian genocide and, in attempt to hide under that to invade the sovereign country, US President Donald Trump threatened to launch military operations in defence Christians in the country of over half the national population being Muslims.
MURIC, among several other bodies including the Nigeria Supreme Council for Affairs (NSCIA), Da’awah Coordination Council of Nigeria (DCCN) and the Supreme Council for Shari’a in Nigeria (SCSN), had therefore called for immediate sack of Amupitan by President Tinubu.
They respectively agreed that anyone to head or manage an electoral umpire as sensitive as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nigeria must not only be above board but also be seen as neutral.

In a statement issued on Monday 24th November, 2025, the Executive Director of the human rights group, MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola, asked the Federal Government of Nigeria why the new INEC boss has not been removed since the revelation of “his unpatriotic, costly and dastardly act three weeks ago.”
The full statement read in full, “It will be recalled that in our press statement of 10th November, 2025, we demanded the removal of the newly appointed INEC boss, Professor Joash Amupitan who was accused of writing the legal brief to the United States on Christian genocide in Nigeria.
“Earlier on, the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria (SCSN) and the Da’wah Coordination Council of Nigeria (DCCN) made the same demand (https://saharareporters.com/2025/11/08/breaking-nigerian-shariah-council-asks-tinubu-immediately-sack-inec-chairman-prof; https://thedefenderngr.com/another-nigerias-islamic-group-demands-sack-of-amupitan-as-inec-chairman/).*
“Apart from these Islamic organisations, many other groups made the same call, including the Voice of Liberty Nigeria (https://voiceoflibertyng.com/group-demands-inec-chairmans-resignation-over-divisive-2020-legal-brief/) and the Concerned Citizens for Peace, Justice, and Democratic Integrity (https://emergencydigest.com/2025/11/14/inec-petitions-tinubu-amupitan/).
“To the best of our knowledge, the new INEC boss has not denied authorship of the false, controversial, divisive and mischievous legal brief to America. Neither has FG. Yet the latter has maintained a curious silence on this very sensitive matter. Is FG waiting for a chance to bury this matter when other burning issues overtake it? Is Amupitan a sacred cow?”
