Munir Ja’afaru, 8 others conferred with Fellows Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria

The Madakin Zazzau and Chairman, Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited, Alhaji Mohammed Munir Ja’afaru, along eight other distinguished Nigerian professionals was conferred with Fellow of Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria at the President’s Annual Dinner and Induction Dinner, held in Four Points By Sheraton, Victoria Island, Lagos, evening of Thursday November 17, 2022.

Others also conferred with same award included Mr. Basil, Chairman, Stanbic IBTC Holding Plc, Mr. Adetunji Adetokunbo Oyebanji, Chairman, Downstream Petroleum Group, Dr. Omobola Johnson, Board Chair, Guinness Nigeria Plc, Mrs Nkemdilim Uwaje Begho, ICT professional, Mr. Ibrahim Dikko, independent consultant, regulation and regulatory affairs, Mrs Yemisi Ayeni, Chairperson, NASCOMN Allied Industries Plc, Mr. Kayode Falowo, investment banker, and Mr. Idris Bello, Founding Partner, LoftyInc Capital.

Born into the royal family of an Islamic scholar and the 17th Emir of Zazzau, Mallam Ja’afaru Dan Isiyaku, on March 25, 1956 in the Zazzau Emirate headquarters of Zaria, His Highness Mallam Mohammed Munir Ja’afaru his early Islamic and western education at Anchau Takalafia Primary School in the present day Kubau Local Government Area from 1962-1968, Government Secondary School Zaria 1969-1973, College of Arts s abd Science Zaria 1974-1976, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria (LL.B) 1976-1979, Master of Law (LL.M) 1983, Nigerian Law School Lagos (BL) 1979-1980 and Call to the Nigerian Bar in 1980.

Munir Ja’afaru also attended the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos,cwhere he bagged the Membership of the National Institute (mni) in 1991.

His Royal background earned him the title of the first ever Yariman Zazzau by His Royal Highness Dr. Shehu Idris, in 1993. He received a National Honour and Award of the Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR) in 2003. His integrity, humality and honour propelled him to the position of Madakin Zazzau, the most Senior Councilor in the hierarchy of Zazzau traditional system.

Madakin Zazzau, Munir Ja’afaru, started his working career in 1981 at the Ahmadu Bello University, as a Lecturer of Law, thereafter, serving as Company Secretary/Legal Adviser for Kaduna Cooperative Bank from 1986-1987. He then became the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Commissioner for Information, Home and Culture as well as Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, all in Kaduna State. He had once served as Chairman, State Prerogative for Mercy and Amirul Hajj for Kaduna State from 1987-1990, Secretary, Nigerian Railways Corporation 1990-1992, Director, Leasing Company of Nigeria 1994-1996 and Director General/Chief Executive Officer, National lMaritime Authority (NIMASA), Lagos from 1992-1996. He became Chairman, National Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZ), Abuja until 2004 and President, Kaduna Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Africulure from 2001-2005 and Member, National Political Reform Conference 2005-2008 and Vice Chairman, Board of Trustees Ahmadu Bello University Endowment Fund in 2005.

Madakin Zazzau became the District Head of Hanwa, Sabon-Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State from 2001-2019, Director, NITEL and MTEL 2007-2008, Member, Kaduna State Economic Council 2008-2011, Member, Kaduna State Peace and Reconciliation Committee in 2012, Chairman, Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited (PAN) 2012-2020, Member FCT Judicial Service Commission 2019 till date, Member Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation 2018 till date, Member, National Honours Award Committee 2021 till date, Chairman, Kaduna State Inter-Faith Regulations Council 2021 till date and the District Head of Basawa 2019 till date. He has been Chairman of Advisory Council of Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation since 2020 until date, Chairman, Acxani Capital Limited 2021 till date and Director, Novare Fund Manager Limited 2021 till date, to mention but a few.

Mallam Munir Ja’afaru, OFR, mni, and Madakin Zazzau is happily married with children and derives pleasure from giving back to the society as well as engaging in humanitarian services.
