Britain’s Central Bank stated earlier that the UK economy entered a recession
Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev has derided British Prime Minister Liz Truss’ poor performance in office, by joking that she deserved a Nobel Prize for collapsing the national economy.
“The Nobel Prize in economics for the speediest destruction of the national finance system should be awarded to Truss,” Medvedev wrote on his Telegram channel.
The UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) announced earlier that the inflation rate in the United Kingdom, fueled by surging food prices, rose to 10.1% year-on-year in September. In August the figure was 9.9%, the highest in 40 years.
Britain’s Central Bank stated earlier that the UK economy entered a recession. One of the most important cited facts was skyrocketing energy costs in the wake of the recent developments in Ukraine. The country’s GDP in the second quarter of this year dropped by 0.1% and a similar decline is expected based on the results of the third quarter.
Truss, 47, became the 56th UK prime minister and the third female to head the cabinet after Margaret Thatcher (who led the government from 1979 to 1990) and Theresa May (2016-2019).
