Mass media watchdog slams YouTube’s move to block Russian accounts as act of censorship

It is reported that Roskomnadzor also recommended that Russian organizations and users switch to domestic services that operate under Russian jurisdiction and comply with Russian law

Russia’s mass media and telecommunications watchdog (Roskomnadzor) has uncovered 87 acts of censorship against Russian channels by YouTube since April 2020, the Roskomnadzor’s press service told TASS on Tuesday.

“The video hosting site YouTube takes a leading role in the information war unleashed by Western countries against Russia. The owner of the site demonstratively ignores the requirements of Russian legislation, does not remove illegal content, and systematically restricts access to the content of Russian media, public and political organizations and figures, as well as to authorities. Since April 2020, Roskomnadzor has identified 87 such acts of censorship against Russian YouTube channels,” the press service said.
