*As Channels Television wins NMMA’s Best TV of the Year Award for 14th time

Doyen of Journalism, Alhaji Kola Muslim Animasaun “resurrected” in Lokoja on Friday 29th of October, 2021, as he was honoured at the Nigeria Media Merit Award (NMMA)’s Media Heroes Night, held preceding the grand finale awards.

Animashaun was honoured along side other late media icons in the country, former Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, who was pioneer President, Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), President, Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN) and first African President of International Press Institute (IPI).

Also honoured were former Minister of Information and Culture; Former Director General, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Executive Director, Voice of Nigeria and President, African Broadcasters Union, Ben Egbuna, who died recently; late Ismaila Funtua among other media icons.

A minute silence was observed

The candle light event which was held at the Muhammadu Buhari Complex, Lokoja, was marked with minutes silence, solemn prayers and fun. Distinguished media practitioners from all over the country were in attendance.

About Kola Animashaun

Alhaji Kola Animasaun, former Chairman Editorial Board of Vanguard Newspapers, taught, produced and mentored many Journalists, who are today among great minds in community of the noble profession.

He had served in several positions including Federal Information Officer in the Nigeria’s Ministry of Information home and in Sweden. He later joined the Vanguard Newspapers as Chief sub-Editor and rose through the cadres to become Chairman, Editorial Board amidst when he served, on sabbatical, as Caretaker Chairman Abeokuta North Local Government Area, during the administration of Chief Olusegun Osoba.

Alhaji Kola Animasaun, the late Baba Adinni of Gbagura and Chief So’otofaye of Aiyede Kingdom, Ekiti State, South West Nigeria, played prominent role on the advisory board of equally great journalism leaders namely; Alhaji Babatunde Jose, Imam AbdulRahman Ahmad, AIG Mu’azu Idris Hadejia (Rtd), AIG Mohammed Mustafa, and Alhaji Aliyu Muhammed Hadejia helped nurture The DEFENDER Newspaper as print publication after it was established on July 27, 2002.

Animasaun, a father, lover of the young, exceptional giver, brilliant adviser and never tired contributor of opportunities, died on the 27 Ramadan 1440AH Islamic year that was 30 May, 2019.

Meanwhile, Channels Television won the NMMA award prize for Best Television Station of the Year for the 14th time.

Extending its record in the category, the award-winning station claimed the prize Sunday morning at the event held in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.

Channels Television’s Controller of Programmes, Mr Ambrose Okoh, and some senior staff members received the award on behalf of the organisation.

Organisers handed out awards in more than 51 categories to various winners, with a majority in the print category.

Prior to the award bagged on Saturday, Channels Television last won the Best Station of the Year for 2018.

This is in addition to claiming the prize in 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017.

Ahead of the four-day ceremony which started on Thursday, organisers had said a total of 1,050 entries from 731 journalists across the country were received for various categories, including print and broadcast.
