Last EU decision not ones that Kyiv expects, Zelenskiy claims
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy expressed his discontent over the EU member states’ varying opinions regarding Ukraine’s accelerated accession to the Union.
“How do we assess the decision made (in the EU Thursday)? It needs to be stronger. This is not what we are waiting for,” he said in a video address published Friday.
Zelenskiy claimed that “it is necessary that the politicians’ decision coincided with the sentiments of their people,” expressing his certainty that most EU citizens support Ukraine’s EU membership.
Furthermore, the Ukrainian leader claimed that he expects “new sanctions decisions” from the international partners “today.”
In late February, Zelenskiy asked the EU for immediate admission of Ukraine. On March 1, head of Presidential Office Andrey Yermak disclosed that the application for the accelerated procedure has been accepted, registered and is being reviewed.
