Kwara Emir selects Arowona for honour as Shattima of Okuta

The Emir of Okuta and Chairman, Baruten Traditional Council in Kwara State, Alhaji Idris Sero Abubakar, Kperogi-Affon Serobetete III, has picked the Publisher of Royal News, an Ilorin based online newspaper, Alhaji AbdulAzeez Arowona, for the confirment of Shattima of Okuta.

Arowona, a media aide and son to the Emir of Ilorin, is also a successful Journalist and trusted media and publicity consultant.

In a letter of notification dated 11th October, 2021, personally signed by the Emir of Okuta, reason for l selection of the new titler of Shattima was given to be in recognition of his being “versatile journalist and social entrepreneur who had been championing the course of cultural preservation and development of Communities, Kingdoms and Emirate Councils with strong commitment to the peace and unity of our dear country.”

Emir Abubakar added that Arowona merited the title also because of his loyalty to the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.

“We recognise your unwavering loyalty to His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, and Chairman Kwara State Council of Chiefs, the Ilorin Emirate Council, respect for Traditional Rulers in Kwara State as well as the entire Traditional Institutions in Northern Nigeria.

He said the consideration of Arowona for the title was also an acknowledgement of his selfless services to the Okuta Emirate and Baruten Traditional Rulers Council.

According to the letter, copy of which was obtained by The DEFENDER, the formal installation and turbaning of the journalism icon will take place during the forthcoming Gaani Cultural Festival, which will hold at the Emir’s Palace Square in Okuta, between Friday 5 and Sunday 7 November, 2021.
