*Charges security agents to fish out killers

The death Monday night of University of Ibadan’s done, Professor Opeyemi Isaac Ajewole, has attracted the attention of Chancellor of the university and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, who described as it as saddening.

This was as contained in a statement issued, signed by Secretary to the Sultanate Council, Sokoto, Alhaji Sai’du Maccido, and copy of which was sent to The DEFENDER on Wednesday.

According to the statement, “The news of killing, by yet to be identified killers, of one of brilliant professors at the University of Ibadan, Opeyemi Isaac Ajewole, has been received by His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, the Sultan of Sokoto.”

In his reaction to the unfortunate event, Sultan Abubakar, who reacted in his capacity as Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, said there could be no raison d’etre for the killing he described as saddening and ‘very highly condemnable’.

“We learnt about the brutal killing of one of our professors at the University of Ibadan.  As Chancellor of the university, I condemn the killing while also condoling the family of the late professor and the university community.

“We express our sadness for losing such an ingenious don and the originality that he had been able to contribute to quality of education and knowledge service delivery at the university during his lifetime,” the Chancellor and Sultan of Sokoto said.

In the meantime, Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar has called on the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies to unravel circumstances surrounding the gruesome murder and fish out for prosecution, all that are involved in it, for justice to take its course.
