Katsina: Buhari’s candidature contributed to violence-free elections – Masari

Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State has said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s candidature in the Saturday’s Presidential and National elections was responsible for the peaceful conduct of the exercise in the state.

Masari, who stated this when he fielded questions from State House correspondents in Katsina on Sunday, noted with delight that the state recorded almost 100 per cent violence-free elections on Saturday.

He stated that his administration had continued to ensure social justice and fairness in all its endeavours, and had made the issue of security as everybody’s business in the state.

He said: “Above all when you are conducting an election with President Muhammadu Buhari as a candidate, all the people of Katsina including some that belong to the opposition whom I am sure voted for him, you cannot witness any form of violence.

“Buhari is a likeable person whose time has come.’’

The governor, who commended the people of the state for ensuring the peaceful conduct of the elections, enjoined them to sustain the tempo so as to ensure smooth conduct of the subsequent elections in the state.

“Whatever one believes in, peace is for all not for a section of the state. Society generally is like the human body.

“So if your left hand is sick, it automatically means your right hand is sick too.

“So we do believe that collectively as people of Katsina state we have to work hard and provide a peaceful atmosphere because peace is so important that it should not be left in the hands of only security agents or government rather, the religious leaders and the communities too have roles to play,’’ he said.

Masari expressed optimism that President Buhari would emerge winner of the Saturday’s presidential election, adding that the president would win with wide margin.

“Well, let me first of all be specific before I become general – Specific in the sense that for us in Katsina state, we are sure of 100 per cent success of the All Progressives Congress.

“On a general note, from the information we are receiving nationwide, I do believe APC is going to win with a wide margin,’’ he said.

The governor noted that the state government in collaboration with security agencies had succeeded in securing peaceful general elections in all the local government areas of the state.
