Kano to empower 12,500 women, youths

The Kano State Government has concluded arrangement to empower another set of 12,500 women and youths to enable them become self-reliant.

Under the arrangement, 6,000 food vendors and 6,500 youths for phone repairs will be empowered to boost their businesses.

This is contained in a statement signed by Abba Anwar, the Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje which was made available to newsmen in Kano on Friday.

He said Ganduje revealed this when former chairmen of the 44 local government areas in the state paid him a solidarity visit at his office.

Anwar quoted Gov. Ganduje as saying it is part of his administration’s cardinal points to see to the development of small and medium scale businesses in the state.

“Since my inauguration as the governor of Kano state, I promised to empower our people at all levels of the ladder. With greater emphasis on rural dwellers. What we are doing is just what we promise to do.

“Very soon we are empowering 6,500 phone repairers. We have taken all records pertaining these people. We have their numbers, we have their locations, we have the history of their businesses at hand,” he said.

He said his administration would continue to empower women and youths so as to ensure genuine human development, adding “We can only save our people from poverty when we genuinely empower them”

For the food vendors in the state, who are mostly women, Ganduje said, “For your information, we made a purchase of 6,000 gas cylinders for our food vendors. While other accessories of those cylinders are supplied already from China”

“Very soon the state will also empower motor parks attendants for them to help in further developing their businesses and ensure sustainability in the state economy.

The spokesman of the former council chairmen, Alhaji Ibrahim Karaye, assured Ganduje of their support in the forthcoming general election.

“As you are aware sir, your projects cut across all parts of the state. You developed metropolitan areas as well as our rural areas. And you are still developing all parts of the state. We thank you for that.”
