Ahmed Ado Bayero, brother and Chief of Staff to Aminu Ado Bayero, the deposed Emir of Kano, has defected to Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II on Wednesday,
Bayero, also the district head of Kumbotso, publicly pledged his loyalty to Emir Sanusi at his palace in Gidan Rumfa, symbolising his allegiance through a traditional bow, according to Daily Nigerian.
This development comes after Emir Sanusi’s reinstatement as the 16th Emir of Kano by Governor Abba Yusuf in May, following the repeal of the 2019 Kano Emirates Law that had dissolved the five emirates created by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
Despite challenging his removal in court, a Kano State High Court has issued a perpetual injunction against deposed Emir Bayero, prohibiting him from claiming the title of Emir of Kano.
On July 15, Justice Amina Aliyu also restrained four other deposed monarchs from presenting themselves as Emirs of Bichi, Rano, Karaye, and Gaya.
The court additionally served Aminu Ado Bayero and the Inspector General of Police with a Form 48, warning of consequences for non-compliance.
Nevertheless, Bayero has continued to perform royal duties within and outside the Nasarawa royal residence, defying the court’s ruling.
