Gov Umahi’s defection to APC endorsement of President Buhari’s successes – BMO

By BASHIR ADEFAKA

The Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) has described the defection of the Governor of Ebonyi State, Engineer Dave Umahi from PDP to APC as an endorsement of the successes recorded across the board by the President Muhammadu Buhari Administration.

In a statement signed by Niyi Akinsiju, the group’s Chairman, and Cassidy Madueke, its Secretary, the group heartily welcomed the Ebonyi State Governor to the APC family and congratulated him for a timely departure from the community of under-performing and inequitable-minded politicians.

“His Excellency Governor Umahi joined APC voluntarily, wholeheartedly and without pressures from within or without. This is unprecedented. The reasons he gave for his defection, the inherent injustices he encountered in the PDP, are consistent with our previous position that the party lacks democratic soul and character, hence voters must be wary of its promises.

“The timing of Governor Umahi’s defection carries important symbolism. It is another endorsement of the Buhari Administration’s concerted efforts in delivering democracy dividends to the Southeast, for the administration’s policy of carrying all segments of the federation along in physical development and equitable spread of infrastructure.

“It is obvious that Governor Umahi has seen through the decades of deception by the PDP and its apparent proclivity for lying and propaganda exemplified in the annual festivity of promises made on the realisation of the Second Niger Bridge which remained a design on paper until the coming of the Buhari Administration

“The Southeastern states as a collective were marginalized and sidelined in matters of development all through the 16 years the PDP was in Federal Government with absolutely no infrastructural facility to point to. Things are different now, the Second Nigeria Bridge is being materialized, the long abandoned Onitsha Seaport has been activated, the Enugu-Port Harcourt and East-West Highways are being rehabilitated, among numerous economic empowerment schemes being accessed by youth entrepreneurs from the zone.

“Indeed, why should Nigerians trust the PDP, a political party which lacks justice; one that willfully mistreats a geopolitical zone from where it has enjoyed unflinching electoral support and solidarity? We equally sympathize with PDP leaders who have resorted to issuing confusing and contradictory statements in a lost battle to contain the irreparable brand damage. The pick of the hour must be Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike’s disjointed diatribes against Governor Umahi and the customary monosyllabic response from the PDP Propaganda machine; all pointing to a Party in wrenched turmoil and one that is freaking out over the loss of its symbol of respectable governance to a rival party which is gaining in numbers and riding an unstoppable momentum.”
