Former Minister of Communications, Major General Tajudeen Olanrewaju (Rtd), while mourning the demise of late former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, describes him as one that carried out his duties as an anti-corruption fighter with less noise.
The DEFENDER had earlier reported Sunday that the former EFCC boss died in Egypt at the age of 61.
According to an online medium, Premium Times, which cited ‘close associates,’ Lamorde died on Sunday in Egypt, where he had travelled for medical treatment.
Olanrewanjo, who stated this in a statement released by his media office on Sunday May 26, 2024, said Lamorde was one of few public servant he had met while he was in office.
“I met him on a few occasions when he acted. He carried out his duties with due care and less noise. He was a gentleman and a formidable security service officer.
“He was a God-fearing gentleman who left behind him landmark achievements during his short stay as Chairman, EFCC.
“May Allah accept his soul into Al-Jannah Firdaos and provide for the family that he left behind. May his soul rest in peace,” General Olanrewaju prayed.
Under condition of anonymity, a source reportedly said that Mr Lamarde’s corpse would be airlifted to Nigeria on Monday May 27, 2024 for burial in accordance with Islamic law
The source said, “He actually took his wife to Egypt for medical attention when he decided to remove a kidney stone which had caused him some discomfort. He however died in the process of the procedure to remove the stone. His corpse will be brought to Nigeria on Monday for Janaza (Islamic burial). I think the Federal Government is assisting in the formalities to bring back his remains.”
