Gagloyev wins presidential election in South Ossetia with 56.09% after all ballots counted

South Ossetian presidential candidate and leader of the Nykhas party Alan Gagloyev gained 56.09% of the vote with 100% of ballots counted and won the presidential election, according to the protocol of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the republic on the results of the second round of presidential elections obtained by TASS.

“Based on the results of the presidential election of the Republic of South Ossetia on May 8, 2022 to consider Alan E. Gagloyev elected to the presidency in the Republic of South Ossetia,” the CEC decree said.

According to the document, 16,134 citizens of the republic, or 56.09% of voters, cast their votes for Gagloyev. South Ossetia’s incumbent leader Anatoly Bibilov gained 40.9% of votes, with 11,767 people supporting him. Another 867 citizens of the republic, or 3.01% of voters, voted against all candidates. According to the CEC’s data, a total of 29,423 people participated in the second round of the presidential vote, with the turnout reaching 73.93%.

On May 8, South Ossetia held its presidential runoff, which involved Bibilov and Gagloyev. It has been acknowledged as valid.
