FG issues circular implementing use of Hijab in unity schools

The Federal Government of Nigeria has released circular for the use of Hijab as approved for female Muslim students.

This was contained in a circular dated February 1, 2023 sent to all Principals of all 112 Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Science and Technical Colleges in the country.

According to the circular signed by the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Education, Andrew David Adejo, the two sets of school uniform approved for female students were explained.

“This is to bring to your notice that the Ministry has approved the use of corporate/cape size hijab as part of school uniform by female Muslim students in all the 112 Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Science and Technical Colleges,” it said.

Continuing it said, “You will recall that the female students have two sets of school uniform which are: “i. skirt and blouse (blouse, short or long sleeve as the case may be) with a hat or beret; and ii. trousers and kaftan (kaftan below knee)and a head tie”, it said with samples attached.

According to Andrew, the students can use corporate/cape size hijab on any of the approved school uniform.

He noted that under no condition should any student be compelled to use the corporate/cape size hijab on her uniform against her wish.

“Please be guided accordingly,” the circular ended.
