The Federal Government of Nigeria has reacted to Saturday’s reported threat by Airline Operators in Nigeria (AoN) to shutdown operations as the continued jet fuel price increase is beginning to be unbearable, not only to them but also to air passengers, who now have to pay over 100 percent above normal fare for flight ticket.

In its reaction, the government through a statement by Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, urged the union to give it time to explore means of resolving the challenge.

According to a statement by the Minister’s Special Assistant on Public Affairs, James Odaudu, the minister had noted the worries of the operators as encapsulated in the reports that the nation’s air transportation system will be disrupted and shutdown from Monday May 9th, 2022 as a result of the rising cost of Jet A1, otherwise known as aviation fuel.
