Zamfara to train 1,000 teachers on global standard teacher transformation

The Zamfara State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has flagged off a 21-day training of 250 secondary school teachers selected across the fourteen local government areas of the state out of the 1,000 earmarked for training on Global Standard Teacher Transformation Programme (GSTTP).
It said the programme is more than a training exercise. “It is a strategic investment in the most important resource of any education system by bringing together teachers, quality assurance evaluators, and education administrators, to strengthening the entire education value chain, from classroom instruction to school leadership and system accountability.”
The training was aimed at ensuring the implementation of the policies followed the declaration of State of Emergency earlier imposed by the State Governor Dauda Lawal on education sector with a view to change the narration with regard to poor delivery and teaching qualification for teachers and schools’ Principals.
Speaking during the opening ceremony of the training in Gusau on Monday, the Commissioner of Education, Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam represented by Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Hajiya Maryam Shantali, said the teachers would be trained to meet the global standard in teaching.
According to the ministry’s chief, the idea behind the training was to put back the sector on rail by ensuring total rehabilitation of the sector, facilitating the teacher development and the provision of learning environments under strategic commitments that would change the current position of the state’s education to the height level.
Gajam said Zamfara is witnessing remarkable progress as we embarked upon comprehensive reforms which included strengthening our institutions, improving quality assurance mechanisms resulting in qualified teachers, upgrading schools’ infrastructures and implementing strategic education policies.
The Permanent Secretary and Commissioner’s representative further urged the teachers to pay extra attention for the training to record great success, adding that, bright future of the generations in the Zamfara State who would remain the hope of the state vouchsafe in their hands.

She further said, “Governor Dauda Lawal recognized the reality when he declared a State of Emergency on Education. That declaration was not merely symbolic. It was a clear commitment to reversing years of educational decline through bold reforms, strategic investments, institutional strengthening, improved governance, infrastructure renewal, teacher development, and enhanced learning outcomes.”
