Female banker commits suicide in Lagos

A female banking staff of a first generation bank in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, identified as Amarachi Ugochukwu, 32, has reportedly taken the life of herself.
Ugochukwu’s lifeless body was said to have been found in the bank’s restroom with a suicide note and an empty container of insecticide, suspected to have been consumed by her also discovered on the restroom floor.
According to her colleagues, Amarachi Ugochukwu, a marketing staff of the bank, was said to have left her desk around noon on Monday January 8, 2024, to attend to personal matters.
Concerns arose when her phone, left on the table, incessantly rang without any response. Curious colleagues began searching the premises, and one of them found the restroom locked from the inside. Apprehension set in when repeated knocks on the door went unanswered.
Upon forcing the door open, Amarachi was found lying motionless on the floor. In a 2024 diary discovered at the scene, she had penned a suicide note expressing despair about her life, citing economic hardships, wrong decisions, and a bleak future. She apologized to her parents, five other individuals mentioned by name, and concluded with a plea for mercy from the Lord.
Colleagues, after summoning a doctor, confirmed her demise. Subsequently, the Ikorodu Division Police were notified and dispatched to the scene. They evacuated the body to Ikorodu General Hospital for an autopsy.
When information about the incident got to The DEFENDER on Friday, an enquiry was sent to Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benjamen Hundeyin, but as at the time of filing this report, he was yet to reply.
In the meantime, some police sources reported indicated that the deceased’s family had been contacted, while an investigation into the sad event was said to have commenced.
