#ENDSARS: How CNN, in own ‘investigative’ report, vindicated Nigerian Government, Army

By BASHIR ADEFAKA
The Cable News Network (CNN), in a bid to paint Nigeria in bad light, ended up vindicating the country.

This happened in its acclaimed investigative report wherein it did what is now seen as premeditated indictment of the country’s system over Lekki Toll Gate shootings in Lagos on Tuesday October 20, 2020.
The CNN vindicated the Nigerian Army and government that there was no MASSACRE and therefore agreed to IRRESPONSIBLE, MISLEADING and INCITING JOURNALISM when, in the defence of its report on alleged Lekki shooting, it wrote that:
“Our reporting was carefully and meticulously researched, and we stand by it.The report was based on testimony from dozens of witnesses, and photos and video obtained and geolocated by CNN. It painted a picture of how members of the Nigerian Army and the police shot at the crowd, killing at least one person and wounding dozens more.”
Apart from making the business of fact-checking now easier even for fans of the CNN, this portion of the report posts questions that only the international media network can answer.
“Is the death of one person as CNN report revealed maybe from stampede, a massacre? Or has the English meaning of massacre changed with the CNN?” Questions have been asked.
An advocacy thus emerged, “This is why that CNN report is misleading and a sensation,” it said adding “Say No to irresponsible journalism”.
