Governor of Ekiti State Ayodele Fayose and former Minister of Works, Mr. Dayo Adeyeye, brought back to life their hostilities at the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ward congresses conducted in Ekiti State on Saturday.
In Ikere–Ekiti, a former council boss Mr. Banji Aluko, was beaten by people believed to be supporters of Kolapo Olusola, the Fayose’s Deputy Governor.
The victim was accused of working against ‘Ikere agenda’, having been found to be aligning with Adeyeye in the gubernatorial tussle.
Aluko, who was leading a group of youth to the secretariat of the party to register his protest over alleged shoddy manner the congress was conducted, was chased and beaten.
He accused the deputy governor and a member of the House of Assembly representing Ikere constituency 1, Hon Wale Ayeni, of sponsoring the attack.
Meanwhile, former Minister of Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye has described the congress as a charade, calling for outright cancellation of the election to prevent anarchy.
Adeyeye said the election were brazenly manipulated in all the 177 wards, accusing the leaders of PDP Ad hoc committees sent to the 16 local governments of diverting the materials meant for the election.
Former Senate President, David Mark, led other top hierarchy of the party to conduct the congress.
Reports from other wards suggested that the congress was peaceful across the state.
A senior official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who monitored the exercise, said it was largely peaceful.
