For the umpteenth time in ome day, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has, again, asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to review the results submitted from the 18 Local Government Areas of Edo State before announcing the final outcome.
This time, it was coming from the state chapter of the party after tge earlier address by PDP’s Chairman Committee on the Edo State Election, Alhaji Umar Fintiri, who announced the results of tge election allegedly altered by All Progressives Congress (APC) in collusion with officials of the INEC.
Briefing journalists at its situation room inside the Government House, the Edo State Chairman of the PDP, Anthony Aziegbemi, explained that the discrepancies between figures on the EC8 form is not tallying with that on INEC’s iREV platform.
Results of 17 local government areas have been announced earlier, with only one local government remaining.
In the results announced so far, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, is maintaining what seems like an unassailable lead.
He is currently leading in 11 local government areas out of the 17 already declared, leaving Ighodalo with only 6.
Meanwhile, the PDP Governors’ Forum has also released a statement calling on INEC to respect the wish of the Edo people.
Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, made the call in a statement on Sunday.
“As the country perches on the horns of grave economic and security challenges, it is our expectation that INEC and everyone involved in the Edo Governorship Elections will respect the sovereign wishes of the people of Edo State and spare the nation the unpredictable consequences of a disputed result at this time,” he said.
“This becomes more imperative, especially in the face of the threat to democracy by the total state capture inclination of the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress, APC government.”
