Donation of N9bn equipment to police shows Buhari’s commitment to security – BMO

The donation of N8.7Billion worth of operational vehicles and equipment to the Nigerian Police by the Muhammadu Buhari administration is another indication of the President’s seriousness in the fight against insecurity in the nation.

It will be recalled that the federal government through the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) on Thursday donated 200 Buffalo branded operational vehicles, bulletproof vests, protective helmets, drugs and medical equipment totalling about N8.7 Billion to support the Nigeria Police in the arduous task of securing the country.

The Buhari Media Organisation(BMO), in a statement signed by its Chairman Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary Cassidy Madueke, noted that over the years inadequate equipment for the Nigerian Police had hindered the work of the Police.

“Under the Buhari administration, however, there have been conscious efforts to ensure that the Nigerian Police and other security agencies receive the needed support.

“It should also be noted that as part of the efforts to boost the morale of the Nigerian Police and enhance their operational capabilities, the Federal Government had embarked on police reforms and this has continued to attract adequate funding and equipment for the Nigerian Police.

“We note also that with the security challenges in the country, the donation of rugged Buffalo trucks and other equipment to the Nigerian Police by the Buhari administration, definitely the personnel will be able to withstand the difficult geographical terrains and conditions in the course of fighting terrorism, banditry, kidnappings and armed robberies across the country.

“Also the acquisition of this equipment will help the Nigerian Police in combating the nefarious activities of highway kidnappers across the country”.

According to the group, this is also a demonstration of the President’s commitment to combating insecurity in the country.

Urging the Nigerian Police to make the best use of the equipment by redoubling their efforts towards eradicating banditry, kidnappings and all forms of criminality in the country, BMO charged the Police to redouble their efforts.

“With the donation of this equipment, the Nigerian Police have no reason to falter in the discharge of their responsibilities, rather they should hit the ground running and pursue the criminals to their hideouts and secure the country for Nigerians”, the group added.
