CP deepens security partnership in Ughelli, calls for stronger stakeholder collaboration

In his response, the Ovie of Great Ughelli Kingdom reaffirmed the palace’s commitment to supporting security agencies in safeguarding lives and property. He declared that no criminal would be protected because of tribal or community affiliation, warning that those shielded today could become future threats to the community.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has intensified efforts to strengthen community policing and security collaboration with traditional institutions during a familiarisation tour of the Ughelli Area Command.
The visit, held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, featured a courtesy call on the Ovie of Great Ughelli Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Evang. Dr. Wilson Ojakovo (Oharisi III), as well as separate meetings with community stakeholders and officers of the Area Command.
According to the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Commissioner of Police commended the monarch and the people of Great Ughelli Kingdom for their continued support to the Nigeria Police Force. He reiterated the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on strengthening grassroots policing through strategic collaboration with traditional institutions.
CP Oyeniyi stressed that effective intelligence sharing remains crucial to tackling cultism, illicit drug trafficking, kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state. He assured the traditional ruler that the Delta State Police Command would continue to discharge its constitutional responsibilities with professionalism, respect for the rule of law and protection of fundamental human rights.

The monarch also pledged the palace’s continued cooperation with the Police through intelligence sharing and other collaborative security initiatives, adding that the people of Ughelli remain committed to maintaining a cordial relationship with the Nigeria Police Force.
As part of the tour, the Commissioner of Police held separate interactive sessions with key stakeholders and officers of the Ughelli Area Command. He urged community leaders to strengthen collaboration with the Police by providing timely and credible intelligence capable of preventing crimes before they occur.
Addressing officers and men of the Command, CP Oyeniyi charged them to uphold discipline, professionalism and civility in their dealings with members of the public. He also directed them to strictly comply with the Force’s Standard Operating Procedures and the Nigeria Police Force Social Media Policy, warning that unauthorised use of social media or any conduct capable of bringing the Force into disrepute would not be tolerated.
The Police Commissioner further urged personnel to remain committed to the Inspector-General’s vision of a professional, intelligence-led and people-oriented police force capable of effectively addressing contemporary security challenges.
