Court convicts, sentences undergraduate for UTME malpractices

Barely one month when an Abuja Grade “A” court sentenced a CBT owner to jail for act of infractions, a Federal High Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State capital, has convicted an undergraduate of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, a state university, for impersonation and examination malpractice during the 2023 UTME.

The presiding judge, Honourable Justice T Adegoke in a judgement delivered on 5th March, 2024, found the defendant, Adesuyi Feranmi, guilty on two-count charge of conspiracy and examination impersonation.

Hon. Justice T. B. Adegoke convicted the defendant to one year imprisonment on count one and also convicted him on count two to one year imprisonment.

The conviction would run concurrently.

The court, however, gave the convict an option of fine of N100,000 on count one and another option of fine of N100,000 on count two with both fines totaling N200,000.

The DEFENDER reports that Adesuyi, 29-year-old, was apprehended on April 28, 2023 at Amable Nig Ltd CBT Center, Owo, Ondo State, during the 2023 UTME while impersonating one Sanusi Tunde at the point of biometric verification exercise.

Following conflicting and mismatch data as well as testimonials and confession, he was handed over to security operative for further investigation and consequently his arraignment.

The charge list said Adesuyi committed an offence of examination malpractice and felony contrary to section 10 of Examination Malpractices Act, Cap E15, Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004 and punishable under Section 3(2)(c) of Examination Malpractice Act, Cap E15 Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
