The Chairman of the Delta State Football Association (DFA), Chief Godwin Adode, has reaffirmed Delta State’s commitment to football development as the state hosts the 2024/2025 Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 Playoffs in Asaba.

Speaking during the draws held at the Stephen Keshi International Stadium, Chief Adode expressed delight over the state being chosen to host such a crucial event.
“This is a clear indication that Delta State remains the destination of choice when it comes to sports in Nigeria,
we are not just proud to host the NNL Super 8 we are proud to showcase our love and support for football once again.”
He commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for accepting to host the tournament, describing it as a further testament to the administration’s continued investment in sports.
“I want to thank His Excellency, the Governor, for approving this hosting right. It shows his dedication to the development of sports not only in Delta State but across Nigeria.”
Chief Adode also appreciated the NNL Board for their trust in the state, assuring that Delta would deliver a smooth and successful competition.
“We don’t take this decision for granted. Deltans are lovers of sports, and this is another opportunity for us to show that.”
He encouraged football fans across the state to troop out in their numbers to enjoy good football and throw their support behind Warri Wolves.
“I call on everyone to come to the stadium and cheer these teams, especially our own Warri Wolves, who are just a step away from returning to the Premier League.”
Addressing the participating clubs and officials, the NNL Chairman, Chief George Aluo, charged the teams to play by the rules, emphasizing that the competition must reflect the values and standards of global football.
“We want a clean, fair, and competitive tournament.
The NNL is committed to ensuring that the rules of the game are respected.”
He warned against poor officiating, noting that referees who fail to perform to expectation would face strict disciplinary action.
“Any form of biased officiating will not be tolerated. We will sanction any referee found wanting.”
Aluo clarified that players with accumulated yellow cards from the regular season would not be suspended for the Super 8, but cautioned against fielding ineligible players.
“Teams are free from previous card suspensions,
but if any team field players who were not registered during the regular season, there will be sanctions including a three-point deduction, loss of three goals, and a fine.”
