CHANGE OF STRATEGY: President Buhari appoints Rear Admiral Musa as Coordinator, National Counter Terrorism Centre
By KEMI KASUMU
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Rear Admiral Yaminu Ehinomen Musa (Rtd) as the pioneer Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC).
This was contained in a statement by Mr. Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, sent to The DEFENDER on Tuesday.
Appointment of Musa was coming on the heels of the Buhari-led National Security Council (NSC)’s realising, recently, the immediate need to change strategy in its prosecution of war against the gorilla forces behind insecurity in North and South East with their terrorism activities spreading to the South West of the country, in the wake of Owo church attack.
The NCTC is established in the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) as the coordinating body for the harmonisation of all counter terrorism and terrorism financing efforts in the country.
The NCTC is equally charged with the coordination of counter terrorism policies, strategies, plans and support in the performance of the functions of the National Security Adviser (NSA), as provided in the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022.
Additionally, the retired Naval senior officer served as the Nigerian representative at the Global Counter-terrorism Forum (GCTF) for the last 3 years.
His appointment is to take effect immediately and to run for an initial term of 5 years.
