BREAKING: Victor Giadom finally summons APC NEC meeting for State House
The Acting National Chairman of the Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Victor Giadom, has summoned a virtual meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the seven-year old party that barely five years in government.
Giadom, in a statement issued Tuesday and obtained by The DEFENDER, said he was convening the meeting with the consent of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said that venue of NEC meeting scheduled for Thursday, June 25, shall be the State House that is, Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.
“I, Chief Victor Giadom, having been duly authorized by Court Order to Act as National Chairman of our great party and to preside over all meetings of the NWC and NEC hereby and with the consent of the President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR (who is the leader of our Party) reconvene the NEC meeting that was earlier billed to hold on the 17th of March, 2020, but was postponed.
“The reconvened meeting shall hold on Thursday, June 25th, 2020. Venue shall be the State House, Abuja.
“However, in keeping strictly to the COVID-19 Guidelines, the postponed NEC shall proceed by virtual means. The codes would be sent by text to the phone numbers of all NEC members.
“Those to be physically present at the State House, Abuja, would also be communicated,” he said.
It will be recalled that some APC governors met with President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, a day after the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, was received in audience by the President at his residence in the Villa amidst calls, by particularly former National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun among others, the Leader to urgently convene an emergency NEC meeting to save the party from further degenerating.
The DEFENDER reports that that the governors and the President consulted with the Acting National Chairman on same day as it became clear that President Buhari was now inclined towards heeding the call for NEC to meet.
The NEC, according to those calling for it, is an organ of the party constitutionally empowered to give directions for management of the party’s affairs.
This organ is said to have been sidelined for long as the suspended national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, was accused of failing to convene. He was also accused of failing to constitute the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party since it was agreed upon as he took over ahead of 2019 general elections.
With the courts installing Giadom to the position, reverting to allowing the NEC perform its functions has taken a top priority in his agenda, hence the urgent need to hold the all-inclusive meeting.
Chief Giadom’s statement summoning the NEC is coming on a day when the Nigeria Police Force took over the National Secretariat of the party in a circumstance it explained was to prevent the breakdown of law and order for the purpose of keeping the peace in the place.
In exercising his authority as the top man at Blantyre Street, Giadom has been reaching out officially to other related institutions such as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which he wrote two consecutive letters of notification about his resumption and other letter on Edo primary election, saying any primary held without his authority is invalid.
He copied the security agencies at each time of such writings to INEC and also copied the Chairman of APC in Edo State.
