BREAKING: President Buhari presides over Council of State meeting

Information reaching us says President Muhammadu Buhari is currently presiding over a Council of State meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, which is fourth of its kind to have happened the administration the last being in August 2020.

Joining President Buhari at the meeting that started 10am this Thursday are Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha, National Security Adviser Babagana Monguno and Chief of Staff to the President Prof. Ibarahim Gambari.

According to the information, three former leaders namely former Military Heads of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd), General Abdusalami Abubakar (Rtd), and former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, are currently physically in attendance, while others are said to be attending the meeting virtually from their various locations.

Governors in attendance include Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti); Hope Uzodinma (Imo), Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Bello Matawalle (Zamfara), Nasir El-rufa’i (Kaduna), Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano) and Abubakar Badaru (Jigawa).

The DEFENDER reports that the Council of State meeting, believed to have been prompted by the resurgent insecurity particularly in the North West and parts of North Central of the country, has held four times including Thursday’s session with the first held on October 21, 2015, the second on September 7, 2016 and the third held virtually in August 2020.

No statement yet on the meeting but its holding has been confirmed with a post on the Facebook social media of the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina.

The Council of State is an organ of the Federal Government saddled with the responsibility of advising the executives on policy making.

Matters of insecurity and economy are however expected to form part of today’s discussions.
