The Federal Government of Nigeria has summoned the envoys of the United States of America, United Kingdom, Canada and the European Union over their recent comments on the suspension of Twitter in the country.

The international community had rejected the action of the government, describing it as clamping down on the rights of Nigerians to freedom of expression.

America’s Nigerian Office was particularly in the news for condemning the nation’s government saying its ban on the pro-terrorist Twitter was wrong message investors. To many, that comment by the United States authorities shows the country’s confirmation that democracy it champions in some countries of the world that embrace it is evil, if it could openly support pro-terrorism activities of the social media networking platform against Nigeria.

IPOB, a terrorist organisation in Nigeria, has been responsible for countless killings of security officers, burning of police stations as well as offices of Independence National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the South East of Nigeria and have been posting inciting audio and video tapes that have caused deaths of many Nigerians but Twitter allowed them. It, however, considered President Muhammadu Buhari’s posts cautioning the terrorists against their criminalities “offensive” and pulled them down hence the ban.

If Twitter must do business in Nigeria, it must know that whit wants to make money, it must not be at the cost of security, unity and peace of Nigerian people. With Pr student Buhari and any future leaders in the countries, citizens want America, UK and others to know that there is government in Nigeria and that the country has its sovereignty to defend.

In a statement on Monday, Kimiebi Ebienfa of the Crisis Monitoring and Public Communications Division of the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, asked the diplomatic heads to a meeting with Geoffrey Onyeama, the minister.

“I am directed to inform that following the recent ban on Twitter by the Federal Government and Press Statement issued by some Heads of Diplomatic Missions Accredited to Nigeria on the subject matter, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency, Geoffrey Onyeama has invited the affected Ambassadors to a meeting today at 12 noon.

“The venue is Minister’s Conference Room, 8th Floor.

“You are hereby invited to cover the meeting. Thanks for your usual cooperation,” Ebienfa said in the statement believed to have been sent out out as press invitation, copied to Geoffrey Onyeama, NBC, Twitter, UK, US and Canada.
