BREAKING: Anambra police arrest parents after lifeless twin infants found in Okpoko drainage

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has condemned the discovery of the lifeless bodies of twin infants in a drainage channel in Okpoko, describing the incident as a disturbing example of “man’s inhumanity to man” and a gross violation of the sanctity of human life.

CP Orutugu made the remarks while commending police operatives for their swift response and diligent investigative efforts, which led to the arrest of the biological parents of the deceased infants shortly after the incident was reported.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, officers attached to the Okpoko Divisional Police Headquarters received a report in the early hours of June 21, 2026, about the discovery of two lifeless infant twins abandoned in a drainage channel along Cooperative Street, Nwokedi, Okpoko.

Following the report, police operatives immediately secured the scene, gathered critical evidence, and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic discovery.

Preliminary investigations led to the identification and arrest of the infants’ biological parents, who are currently in police custody and assisting investigators with inquiries into the incident.

Condemning the act in strong terms, CP Orutugu stressed that every child deserves protection, care, and the opportunity to live. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that anyone found culpable faces the full weight of the law.

The police said investigations are ongoing and assured the public that further updates would be communicated as more details emerge.
