By IBRAHIM KANOMA

The Zamfara State commitee Chairman on prosecution of banditry and other related offences, Dr Abdullahi Sani Wamban Shinkafi has said that the press release signed by the Chairman of Broadcasting Organizations of Nigeria (BON) Dr. Yemi Bamgbose in respect of the closure of some media houses for violating executive order recently signed by Governor Bello Matawalle was aimed to tarnish the personality of the Governor of Zamfara state.

The media houses were closed down for covering PDP activities within the frame work of the executive order.

Wamban Shinkafi disclosed to newsmen at a press conference in Gusau the Zamfara state capital.

According to him, the Letter written by the (BON) is clearly a personal attack on the person of the Governor and the good people of the state.

He further disclosed that (BON) is too economical with the truth because Dr. Yemisi had refused to mention in specific terms those private and government media organizations that were shutdown because of their arbitrary actions against the executive order enforced by the State security council.

“If i am not mistaken this Press Release signed by Yemisi Bamgbose is an affront attack on the personality of our able governor, hence there is need to withdraw the release”. Chairman explains.

Similarly Dr, Sani Abdullahi clearly agreed with NBC and NUJ because they have been liberal and even cited the provisions of the Constitution on the role of the media in helping democracy in Nigeria, but he rejected the submission of BON in totality.

Dr, Sani Shinkafi who is also an APC chieftain in the state added that, the federal media houses closed by the state government decision are NTA and Pride FM radio as well as Gamji TV and Al_ Imma Tv which is a private media station, why can’t (BON) be specific about the media houses closed instead of becoming widely generic.

“The Letter written by Dr. Yemi is a clear reflection of personal attack against the Governor, especially where he urged INEC to clearly deal with the Governor for going against the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 as amended.

” Dr.Yemisi is an ignorant of the way things are done because INEC has no power to punish the governor because he derived his power from the Constitution of Nigeria.

” Going by the provisions of Chapter (2) section 14(2)b of the 1999 Constitution as amended, the Governor has the powers to enact an Executive Order which could help ensure the safety and security of his people.

“The Order signed by the Governor is an interim one, hence what the parties required to do was to give the security agencies little time to address the lingering security traits. He conclude.
