The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) has suspended its eight-month-old industrial action conditionally.

This was disclosed, reportedly, by a member of the Union’s National Executive Committee (NEC) in the early hours of Friday.

The union decided to suspend the strike during a meeting of its leadership that started Thursday night and lasted into Friday.

The meeting was called by the union to determine its next line of action after its state branches met over the Court of Appeal ruling last week upholding the order of National Industrial Court, Abuja.

The appellate court, while dismissing ASUU’s application for stay of execution of the industrial court directives, asked the union to obey before complain, and further ordered it to call off its strike before it could be allowed to appeal the ruling.

ASUU was given a seven day ultimatum to call off its strike for its appeal to be heard or it fails and loses the right to do so.

However, a text message by The DEFENDER to the ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Victor Osodeke, in the early hours of Friday to confirm the latest decision credited to its national executive was not responded to as at the time of filing this report.

Details later…
