There are strong indications that the crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has started receiving the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari, after a seeking long silence.

This was as information from Abuja said the President met with governors on the platform of the party early Monday at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja, a day after he held similarly meeting with Senate President Ahmed Lawan.

The meeting, The DEFENDER gathered, may not be unconnected with crisis that has torn hitherto united party members apart, more especially with Edo State branch crisis that led to the party losing an entire state to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which many political analysts have described as an endangerment to the ruling status of APC in terms of number of states it controls and members it has in the National Assembly.

Those at Monday’s meeting with the President were the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) and Governor of Kebbi State, Senator Atiku Bagudu; Chairman of Northern Governors Forum and Governor of Plateau State, Sir Simon Lalong and Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Abubakar Badaru.

Although purpose of the meeting could not be confirmed as our enquiry to the Presidency was yet to be responded to as at press time, Sunday’s meeting between the President and Senate President Ahmed Lawan was confirmed to be on finding lasting solution to the crisis.

Lawan hinted that the president would lead a push for the settlement of the crisis within the next few days.

He said in a statement that, “Earlier today (Sunday), I was at the Presidential Villa on a visit to His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari where we amongst other things discussed the crisis in our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I want to assure all members of the party that by the grace of God, in the next few days, we’ll see certain actions that would be taken to resolve the crisis. The current situation should not and must not be allowed to further degenerate than it has.

“I believe that we must go into the constitution of our party and see how we are to address the issues, but while we do this, we must not allow the situation to continue as it is today,” he said.
