Amaechi added that he understands the country’s problems and has the capacity to solve them.
A former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, on Friday picked up the Presidential Expression of Interest and Nomination Form of the opposition African Democratic Congress.
Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, who chaired the ADC Policy and Manifesto Committee, led a high-powered delegation, including Senator Abatemi-Usman, to pick up the form on Amaechi’s behalf at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
Amaechi confirmed the obtainment of the presidential nomination form, exclusively, to The DEFENDER in Victoria Island, Lagos on Friday May 6, 2026.
Amaechi, a former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and two-term Governor of Rivers State, has officially joined the presidential race after securing endorsements from several groups, including strong backing from South-South ADC leaders.
He became the second aspirant to obtain the party’s presidential nomination form, which costs N90 million, following Alhaji Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, who earlier picked up the form as a demonstration of his commitment to contesting the 2027 presidential election on the ADC platform.
Speaking on his ambition, Amaechi stressed the need for competence, youth inclusion, power rotation to the South, and renewed attention to security, the economy, and infrastructure as key priorities for Nigeria’s next leadership.
He maintained that his experience in governance and infrastructure development has prepared him to address the country’s pressing challenges ahead of the 2027 general elections, adding that he understands Nigeria’s problems and possesses the capacity to solve them.
