The Nigeria Patriotic Front Movement (NPFM) has issued a strong response to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent speech addressing the ongoing nationwide protests against bad governance, high cost of living, and extreme poverty.

The NPFM criticized the President for focusing on violence in Northern states, such as Kano, while neglecting similar incidents in other regions, including Lagos, Cross River, and Abuja.

In their statement, the NPFM accused the President of blaming protest organizers for the violence without acknowledging the role of counter-protesters who allegedly incited chaos in Kano.

The movement highlighted specific incidents, including the looting and arson at the NCC office, the Kano State High Court, and the Kano Printing Press.

They emphasized that the peaceful nature of their protests was disrupted by these counter-protesters, not the organizers.

The NPFM also addressed broader issues raised by the protesters, such as high petrol pump prices, electricity tariffs, interest rates, and the cost of governance.

They argued that the President’s economic policies disproportionately harm the youth, who make up the majority of the protesters.

Despite some positive developments, such as increased foreign investment and housing initiatives, the NPFM stated that the government’s overall approach remains flawed.

The movement called for an investigation into the violence on August 1 and demanded accountability for those responsible.

The NPFM reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful protests and good governance, urging the people of Kano to remain law-abiding and await further directives.

In closing, the NPFM expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
